Nyssa sylvatica, the Tupelo or Black Gum, is a deciduous, small slow growing tree native to southern and eastern North America. Growing to a height and spread of 5 x 4m in 20 years, this tree’s green foliage turns beautiful shades of orange, red and yellow in the autumn. Found in wetter areas in the wild, it is especially suitable for moist, but well-drained soils, and although prefers acidic soils it will also cope in slightly alkaline conditions
