Salix alba var. caerulea, the Cricket Bat Willow, was discovered in Norfolk in the 1700s, and as its name suggests is used for making cricket bats. A large, deciduous tree, growing up to 25 metres in height, its sea-green leaves have silvery grey undersides. An excellent choice for wet ground or heavy soils, it is used for erosion control along waterways.
