Parrotia persica, the Persian Ironwood, is a beautiful, spreading deciduous tree native to northern Iran and southern Azerbaijan. Introduced to Britain in the 1840s, its bark is particularly hard, hence the name. Growing to a height of between 4 and 8 metres, this tree is known for its striking autumn foliage, which turns vibrant shades of yellow, orange, and red. It also features smooth, peeling bark that reveals patches of green, white, and grey, adding visual interest throughout the year.
