Cercis siliquastrum, commonly known as the Judas tree, is a small deciduous tree native to Southern Europe and Western Asia. It typically grows to a height of 6 to 12 metres (20 to 40 feet). The tree is notable for its striking pink to purple pea-like flowers, which bloom directly on the branches and trunk (a phenomenon known as cauliflory) in early spring before the leaves appear. The leaves are heart-shaped, and the fruit is a flat, brown pod. The Judas tree is often planted as an ornamental tree in gardens and parks for its attractive flowers and foliage.
