Araucaria araucana

Native to South America, the Money Puzzle tree is an evergreen growing up to 25 metres in height and 10 metres wide.  In existence for 200 million years, it is thought that its sharp leaves protected it from predation by dinosaurs.  Introduced into the UK in the late 1700s, the tree became a favourite of the Victorians.   Plant in a sheltered, sunny spot in moist but free-draining soil.
