Acer capillipes, commonly known as the snakebark maple or red snakebark maple, is a deciduous tree native to Japan. It typically grows to a height of 8-15 metres and is distinguished by its striking bark, which has green and white vertical stripes, resembling snake skin. The leaves are ovate to heart-shaped with three to five shallow lobes, and they turn vibrant shades of yellow, orange, and red in the fall. Small, yellow-green flowers bloom in spring, followed by winged samaras. This tree prefers moist, well-drained soils and partial shade, making it a popular choice for ornamental planting in gardens and parks.
