Cherry blossom – Japan to Old Sodbury
The end of March saw the start of Japan’s famous cherry blossom season. Dressing in kimono and seeing the cherry blossom or sakura is a Japanese tradition dating back to the 8th century. Our own cherry blossom season here in the nursery began with Prunus x subhirtella ‘Autumnalis’, the winter flowering cherry, whose blooms started to appear in January bringing some much needed sparkle to grey days. Prunus ‘Spring Glow’ and Prunus ‘Trailblazer’ followed, but you’ve still got time to see the rest of our ornamental cherries doing their thing – and we have plenty to choose from!
