Cercidiphyllum japonicum, the Katsura tree, is a deciduous tree native to China and Japan. It typically grows to a height of 10-15 metres, although in optimal conditions it can reach up to 30 metres. The tree has a rounded to broadly conical shape and features heart-shaped leaves that are 4-10 cm long, turning vibrant shades of yellow, orange, and red in the fall. The Katsura tree is also known for its pleasant scent, often described as caramel or burnt sugar, which is emitted from the fallen leaves in autumn.
